The phone rings.
Me:“Hi, is Kay there?”
A kind older man answers the phone. “No you have the wrong #.”
Me:“Oh I am sorry. Maybe you could help me? I am looking for Kay Simper. I am looking in the phone book and I am not sure of her fathers name.”
The kind voice reply’s “Oh that is my wild grand daughter. I get calls all the time from people looking for her. The # is 928-***-****and her fathers name is Dan.”
Me:“Well thank you for all of your help.”
Well since she didn’t give me her phone number and I had 3 choices in the phone book I just went with the first one. So let’s try this again:
The phone rings.
Me: “Hi, is Kay there?”
A man answered the phone and in a deep and very intimidating voice. “Just a moment, I will see if she is available.”
I know that tone of voice; I have heard it from many other fathers. Right now he is calling the authorities, doing a background check and most likely loading his gun to keep at the front door waiting for me. This man sounds mad and he doesn’t even know that I am asking his little girl on a date. What will he do when I show up at the door to pick Kay up?
An upbeat and sweet voice comes on the reciver. “Hi, this is Kay.”
Me: “Oh, uh, Hi. This is Bo... Bo Lee, I am Crystal Ray's cousin…” Oh great, she doesn’t remember me!
Kay: “Oh yeah, I remember you.”
Me: “I’m sure you’re wondering why I am calling you, well you see the thing is, I was wondering if you had plans for next Friday?”
Long Pause.
Kay: “Not that I can think of, why?”
Don’t screw this up man! Just ask the question!!!
Me: “Well I was wondering if you would like to go to Joe Towns Homecoming Dance with me?”
The pause that followed was comparable to the long and agonizing silence of waiting for the jury before one is convicted or found innocent of some great crime.
Kay: “Well I... I don’t really have any thing to wear.”
Me: “That is ok I am just wearing what I wear to church. I am sure that you have a dress of some sort.”
Kay: “I’m not sure...”
Come on man, say something to convince her.
Me: “Oh come on it, will be fun.” Way to think on my feet…
Kay: “Well, ok.” Success!
Me: “Ok? Great!! I will pick you up at 9:30, sorry it can’t be sooner I have a football game.”
Kay: “It is ok.” Kay thinking, Okay is he going to invite me to his game…
Me: “Then I will see you then.”
This is great. The days that followed were no different then that of any other High School days. Now this is where the story takes an odd turn. Some how my cousin Shawna Frost was invited to go as well. I say, Kay was worried about me and invited her. Both Kay and Shawna have different stories.... But this is my story so we’ll call this “the truth”. So Friday night comes and I pick up Kay first then we head over to Shawna's. We show up at the dance and if I was thought to be some kind of pervert, Mexican, womanizer before hand; well folks lets just add Pimp to my list of offenses against humanity. Every one asked who my dates were and why did I bring two? My only response was... just a smile and a shrug. I never said well I asked one and she brought the other as a witness if the police needed to do a line up. Oh and I left out the part that Shawna was my cousin. Now the night was over and I was taking the girls home and I though that Kay was acting a bit uncomfortable all night so I dropped her off first so that she didn’t have to be alone with me. Well come to find out Kay wanted some alone time to get to know me. Really? What was I supposed to think? Oh well. Mark it up to a lesson learned.

That was hilarious, Bo! Keep the stories coming--I love your writing style.
Kay, you're a hottie!
You had me at "well shit."
this is going to be the best blog ever.
So glad to hear that Bo is still the same Bo... I can't help but agree, the "well shit" eased all of my concerns of the time clock passing since the last we saw each other!
On another note, now I finally know how it all began...and here I thought it began much earlier, and much more introduced...you are right... "Pimp" is an appropriate title for you!
Took some brass to tell that story! Good work!
I love it! You're awesome! I can totally see you telling that story:)
